Comprehensive expertise in food microbiology

The CTCPA microbiology laboratory assists food industry manufacturers in managing microbiological risks at every stage of their processes, from raw materials to finished products.
Our approach combines product analysis, process evaluation, and an understanding of spoilage microorganisms.

Product and process analyses to ensure food safety
We are involved throughout the entire food product lifecycle through:

  • stability studies

  • real-world testing

  • identification of spoilage microorganisms

  • process validation and optimization

This work makes it possible to anticipate risks, ensure the safety of formulations, and improve process control.
Each study is accompanied by actionable recommendations that R&D and production teams can implement immediately.

In-depth knowledge of microorganisms that cause deterioration
The laboratory has recognized expertise in microorganisms involved in food spoilage: bacteria, yeasts, molds, and spores.
Special attention is given to spore-forming bacteria, particularly thermophilic strains.
This expertise is based on:

  • a collection of more than 800 strains

  • molecular biology tools

  • a thorough understanding of weathering mechanisms

It enables us to link microbiological behavior to industrial challenges and propose concrete solutions for risk management.

A renovated laboratory and state-of-the-art facilities

Established in 2001, the microbiology laboratory at the CTCPA in Avignon was completely renovated in 2023 to meet current standards in food microbiology.
Today, it boasts a modern facility and state-of-the-art infrastructure dedicated to microbiological analysis and food research, including a P2 containment level laboratory, suitable for the most demanding food microbiology applications.

A recognized scientific and technical environment
The CTCPA also offers:

  • Listing by the DGAL and ANSES, particularly for Listeria monocytogenes challenge tests

  • A strong commitment to applied research programs supporting the agri-food sector

  • Teams of expert microbiologists who tackle real-world industrial challenges every year

Finally, our services go beyond mere analytical results: we consistently provide a data interpretation and operational recommendations, in order to turn the results into concrete levers for improvement.
