Publication of the ISO 22002:2025 series: a new foundation for food safety

Published on: July 7, 2026

By Anne-Gaëlle MELLOUET & Christine DECANIS – July 2026

Introduction

The publication of the new ISO 22002:2025 series marks a major evolution in food safety prerequisite programs (PRPs). By harmonizing the requirements applicable to the entire food chain, these new standards provide a more consistent common framework that is better suited to today’s challenges in risk management, traceability, and food safety.

For companies that are certified or in the process of obtaining ISO 22000 or FSSC 22000 certification, this change represents an important step that will require them to anticipate future requirements and gradually adapt their management systems.

Learn about the main changes in the ISO 22002:2025 series, their implications for manufacturers, and the key points to consider when preparing for this transition.
