On October 7, 2025, the HYPER U LA CHAPELLE SUR ERDRE launched a new system for reusing plastic trays as part of the European Buddie-Pack – contribution to the EU plastics strategy, coordinated by IPC – Industrial Technical Center for Plastics and Composites and co-financed bythe European Union (Horizon Europe Program).
The concept: fresh deli meals, prepared in-store, packaged in a reusable tray with a €1 deposit. After use, consumers simply return the tray to the collection point to get their deposit back. The containers are then washed, inspected, and put back into circulation, ensuring a complete and secure reuse cycle.
The CTCPA is proud to contribute to this experiment by providing its scientific and technical expertise to guarantee the health safety and regulatory compliance of these reusable containers.
This project perfectly illustrates the strength of collaboration between experts in the reuse ecosystem: ACTIA· UZAJE· NOWW· GUELT · COOP2RATIVE U · PACK EN TRANSITION · EUROPLASTIQUES · LNE · SEARIOUS BUSINESS · VYTAL GLOBAL · THE UNIVERSITY OF SHEFFIELD · AIMPLAS· CHRISTEYNS
This six-month experiment aims to demonstrate that a concrete, safe, and sustainable alternative to single-use packaging is possible in mass retail.
A great collective success and a key step towards structuring reliable reuse channels in the agri-food sector.
