Packaging faults, the source of micro-leaks

Published on: 13/10/2025

Introduction

Modern food packaging, particularly paperboard and lightweight materials, can be prone to micro-leakage, even when the base material has very low gas permeability. These defects, often generated during manufacture, forming or sealing, can compromise product preservation and safety. Precise identification and control of these defects requires suitable methods, such as the use of tracer gases (CO₂ or hydrogen).

The CTCPA assists manufacturers in assessing and controlling packaging to guarantee leaktightness and product quality.
