Our Novel Food support: get your projects financed by BPI France!

Thanks to our experts in the government agencies in charge of this type of dossier, we can help you put together your Novel Food technical and regulatory dossier to maximize your chances of success. New for 2023: BPI France will finance your projects as part of their " Novel Food Diagnostic" program, initiated by the French Ministry of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty (MASA).

The regulations "Novel FoodNovel Food" refers to non-traditional foods and processes that have recently come onto the market. In Europe, Novel Food is any food or process that was not in use before May 1997. Processing aids, on the other hand, are chemical substances not consumed as food ingredients, voluntarily used in food processing to meet a given technological objective.

Our support :

  • Review of the regulatory status of the application, if necessary, by direct communication with the relevant authorities;

  • State of the art in science and technology;

  • Expertise of the data in possession of the applicant, advice on the strategy of filing and collection of additional data (bibliographic study, analysis, pilot tests, technical study ...);

  • Establishment of the study protocol, realization of the technical work (tests in pilot plant, tests under industrial conditions, collection of samples, microbiological and/or biochemical analyses...) or coordination of the work with partner organizations;

  • Drafting of the technical-regulatory file, according to the guidelines in force;

  • Submission of the file and administrative follow-up with the competent authorities.

Beneficiaries :

  • Agroscience company developing a novel food.

  • Start-ups and independent SMEs, whether or not they are Bpifrance customers, that meet the European definition of an SME.

  • Independent ETI (fewer than 2,000 employees registered in France), whether or not a Bpifrance customer.

  • Excluding companies in difficulty as defined by European regulations.


Terms and conditions :

The novel food diagnostic involves helping you choose an expert and partially financing his or her services, which aim to assess and implement the regulatory feasibility of your novel food.
The studies supported may cover and be limited to one or more of the following points:

  • validation of your product's novel food status;

  • pre-consultations with regulatory agencies ;

  • product characterization studies and food suitability review ;

  • review of scientific literature ;

  • data gap analysis study;

  • analysis of labeling constraints ;

  • in vitro laboratory tests (including genotoxicity studies if not already performed).
