"The Right Packaging": A New Philosophy Promoted by the PPWR

Published on: October 13, 2026

Introduction

Packaging is at the heart of the European Union’s environmental transition strategies. With the entry into force of the PPWR regulation, companies must now rethink the design of their packaging to reduce waste at the source, while maintaining the essential functions of product protection, preservation, transport, and information.

This regulatory change is gradually introducing the concept of “minimal packaging”: packaging designed using the minimum amount of material and volume necessary, without compromising product quality or industrial performance. Beyond a simple reduction target, this approach requires companies to be able to justify and document their design choices.

Discover the principles of “just packaging,” the new PPWR requirements, the challenges associated with demonstrating compliance, and the solutions offered by the CTCPA to support packaging manufacturers and food and beverage producers in this transition.
