Introduction
Modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) is an essential technique for extending the shelf life of food by replacing air with gases such as CO₂ and N₂. The standard 70/30 blend, efficient and economical, has become established in the industry. However, dependence on CO₂ weakens the industry, which is exposed to supply tensions. Manufacturers are therefore exploring alternatives - adjusting ratios, new gases, barrier films or autonomous nitrogen production - in order to guarantee product quality and safety while strengthening the resilience of their processes.
Find out how this technology is adapting to new supply challenges, and how the CTCPA is supporting manufacturers towards safer, more innovative solutions.
