Décarbon'action diagnostic: CTCPA assists Société Fromagère du Livradois in its carbon footprint assessment

Published on: 26/09/2024

The CTCPA helped Société Fromagère du Livradois carry out a carbon audit of their Fournols site via the Décarbon'action Diagnostic, financed by BPI France. Review with Clémence POUJADE, CSR and safety officer.

"We really appreciated the support we received from the CTCPA. We always felt we were being listened to. The CTCPA gave us solid technical support!

Société Fromagère du Livradois perpetuates the traditional dairy and farmhouse production of many Auvergne cheeses. Today, Appellations d'Origine represent 50% of the company's business, which processes 50 million liters of milk a year, employs 240 people and generates sales of 68 million euros. It should be noted that 50% of our production is sold in supermarkets, 35% is destined for the catering trade and 15% is exported.

Why did you contact the CTCPA?

At Société Fromagère du Livradois, our corporate mission is to "enhance the value of the region's agricultural production through high-quality, environmentally-friendly cheese-making". With this in mind, we decided to carry out an initial carbon assessment for our head office in Fournols.

We asked about the various subsidies available to help companies make the transition to more sustainable models. We also wanted support in learning how to carry out a proper diagnosis before duplicating it at all our sites.

So we came across the Diag Decarbon'action from BPI France. It's a complete solution because, in our case, BPI France was responsible for finding a competent support organization: the CTCPA.

The CTCPA, an agri-food technical center, is one of the experts for the "Diag Décarbon'Action" program, coordinated by Actia.

How did the CTCPA help Société Fromagère du Livradois?

We submitted our application to BPI France in March 2023, and then everything accelerated! Two weeks later, Margaux COLOMBIN (Environmental Project Manager) and Grégoire CORDIER (Operations Manager) at the CTCPA contacted us to set up a date for a scoping meeting. We wanted to start in August, and so we did. In September, we set up the project team. CTCPA drafted the questionnaires for data collection. In October, we launched the data collection, which lasted until January.

The CTCPA played a referent role. Margaux COLOMBIN and Grégoire CORDIER calculated everything and sent us the documents with recommendations on how to work with the data to make them more representative of our company's carbon emissions.

Summary meetings were held in April and May. CTCPA then helped us prioritize the actions. One of the points of alert was to be careful with actions that were supposedly "good" for the environment but not for carbon impact.

In June 2024, the CTCPA gave us our communicating synthesis and explanations on how to appropriate the calculation files.

What were the results of your carbon audit?

We were very surprised by scope 3, because it's the one with the greatest impact. It represents around 93% of our overall emissions. All of scope 3 is linked to our dairy producers. It's on this scope that we have a lot of work to do to reduce our emissions.

How did the support go?

We really appreciated the support we received from the CTCPA. We always felt we were being listened to. The CTCPA provided us with solid technical support!

Where do you stand today?

In terms of CSR, Société Fromagère du Livradois is fairly immature. On the other hand, we are aware of the impact of our activities and we are seeking to make progress. We are committed to continuous improvement. In 2023, we were awarded the "Label Engagé RSE" at the Progression level.
